Understanding The Importance of International Holocaust Remembrance Events

One of the most important ways to ensure that horrific events from the past are not repeated is through education. This is especially true for the atrocities of the Holocaust.

War and Genocide

There are many reasons countries go to war; one of the most horrific reasons is ethnic cleansing. While most wars are not based on this, it is not an uncommon theme of war and can often be infused in conflicts that are started for other reasons. The entire basis of genocide is to root out people of a particular race, religion, or ethnicity from the majority of a country’s society. To accomplish this, dictators and rulers of a country usually start to remove the undesired people through relocation or killings. In the case of the Holocaust, both occurred.

Holocaust Events In Remembrance

With the over 6 million Jews who lost their lives in the Holocaust, taking time to ensure the events that led up to this are never repeated and honoring those who lost their lives and families is critical. That is why there are designated times each year for Holocaust Remembrance. During these times, events and memorials occur across the globe to bring the issues and the losses of the Holocaust to light. The two most widely known and observed times are Jan 27th, marking the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, as well as the anniversary of the first day of Auschwitz liberation, and Yom Hashoah, which usually takes place in April this year being the 28th.
